Partnering with Connected Beginnings to help support ParentsNext Participants
National Joblink’s Launceston based ParentsNext team received an invitation from Connected Beginnings to attend Kipli & Kani on September 9th 2023 at the George Town Child and Family Centre, Teddy Bears Picnic (Family Day) at the Ravenswood Community Centre on October 25th and Kipli & Kani again on November 23rd at George Town Child and Family Centre.
Kipli & Kani (which loosely translates to Talk and Eat) is a monthly event hosted by Connected Beginnings and is held at varying locations across the state. The event brings together parents and a wide selection of service providers in a friendly environment, to encourage stronger connections within the community and allow opportunities to identify support services available in the local area. National Joblink were able to support Connected Beginnings and attendees with food preparation and service for the event held in George Town, which proved to be a great
way to open conversations with providers and community members about ParentsNext and learn more about services available to local participants. Connected Beginnings have since reached out to NJL’s ParentsNext team to discuss ongoing attendance of Kipli Kani in 2024!
Teddy Bears Picnic held at the Ravenswood Community Centre proved to be challenging due to the weather conditions on the day, but NJL’s ParentsNext team made the most of this wonderful opportunity! NJL supplied a giant snakes and ladders game for the children who attended, which was a hit, and this gave NJL an opportunity to chat to parents and carers about ParentsNext. Attendance at these events provided NJL’s ParentsNext team with the opportunity to engage with parents in the community who had no prior knowledge about ParentsNext and the supports they may be able to receive. The collaboration between Connected Beginnings and National Joblink has resulted in several parents reaching out wanting more information and one parent directly registering to start receiving support.
