Isobel found confidence with support from Transition to Work
Isobel commenced in the TTW program in August 2023. When she initialled, she had recently relocated back to Rockhampton, she was also struggling with her with physical health and emotional wellbeing. When asked if she knew what her barriers were Isobel quickly identified her lack of confidence as a major one, openly sharing her hesitations about working full-time with her mentor.
In the initial phase of Isobel’s engagement in the TTW program, she attended one-on-one mentoring sessions where she was able to identify her goals and develop strategies to achieve these goals. A few weeks into the Program Isobel was successful in gaining employment at the Silver Shop in Rockhampton, where she negotiated with her employer to commence with 4 hours
a week. Over the months as Isobel’s physical and mental health improved, she has taken opportunities to increase her working hours, working up to an average of 20 -25 hours per week.
This increase in work hours coupled with the added responsibilities entrusted on her by her employer, has contributed to an increase in Isobel’s confidence to the point where she has
decided to further develop skills and enrol in a Diploma of nursing.
During her latest visit onsite, Isobel said that being part of the Transition to work program has definitely helped build her confidence. She said that initially she didn’t know what to expect but she found that in appointments, talking about her goals and getting that support made her feel more confident in herself. She shared that without NJL she would not have committed to
working nor pursuing studies. Isobel said that because of the support she has received she has realized the importance of her taking care of her mental health. She said that she has also been
able to build up her savings, which she is really proud of.
